We went to Ready Bodies and studied bats.  We all got tickets at Ready Bodies.-Cade

We have been learning about the lives and habits of bats.  We wrote bat reports and also compared bats with birds.  When finished, we made a bat art project.  We look forward to our parents seeing our work when they come for parent conferences.

Tomorrow, we will have a math test over place value.  If students complete their math homework tonight, which is a review for the test, they should do well on the test tomorrow.-Mrs. Richeson

Thursday, October 7

Wow!  I can’t believe the first 6 weeks is already over and that report cards went home today.  I already have a copy ready and waiting for you so please send them back as soon as possible and I will send the copy home with your student.

The start of this year really flew by.  By now, we are settled into our routines and now the real fun will begin.  I look forward to all the good times we will have learning and trying new things this year.  We will begin making a podcast about Christopher Columbus in the next week so look for that soon!  We are also involved in a collaborative project with several other second grade classes across the nation and one from Australia where we compare the weather where we live.  We are hoping to meet our 2nd grade friends from across the nation via Skype very soon.

Going forward, remember to have students read every night and once on the weekends.  If they forget their book, they can read something from home.  If they forget their reading log, they can write in their planner or any other piece of paper.  Also, math homework is done Monday through Thursday nights.  There may be a lot of us, but I know this will be my best 2nd grade class yet!

We went to PE.   We also did  an experiment on rain.-Brooklyn

Since we are learning about weather this week and last week, we did an experiment today to replicate rain.  To do this experiment at home, follow these steps:

1)Put hot water in a glass jar.  (Let an adult do this step.)  It works well if you add a few drops of food coloring to the water and stir.

2)Put a small plate on top of the jar and watch the air above the water get cloudy.

3)Now put some ice cubes on top of the plate.  Watch as rain drops start to slide down the sides of the jar!

We did a lot of math.We went to the library today and we went to the computer lab.-Renee

Today was our first day to go to the library.  We reviewed the parts of the library, how to use the library shelf markers to keep books in their correct places, how to check out books and how to read quietly after check out.  Next week we will begin checking out books to keep for the week.  We go to the library each Friday at 1:40.-Mrs. Richeson

We went out side.  We went to ready bodies.-Tucker

We are learning about subtracting in math.  We are learning that readers are thinkers in reading.  In writing, we have been talking about focus.  In science, we have been studying weather.

Also, we got a new student today.  Welcome, Dustin!!!-Mrs. Richeson

Our Skype Pals

Today we talked with our Skype Pals for the first time. They are Ms. Siratt’s 2nd grade class from Texarkana, Texas at Spring Lake Park Elementary. Earlier this week both classes wrote questions for our interview today. The teachers emailed each list to the other class. Then, each student was assigned a few questions to answer from the other class. Today, we conducted our interviews. Not only did the students have fun, but we practiced our reading, writing, geography and technology skills as well! We plan on Skyping each other several more times this spring. The slideshow below shows the Skype session in action. Enjoy!
